One of the most memorable comments from a client today came at the end of their massage. They looked at me and said, “I feel like I just got beat up.”
Naturally, I gave them a rather puzzled look, wondering whether I should be concerned about how the session had gone. Before I could say anything, they quickly clarified, “Oh no, that’s a good thing. I definitely needed that!”
It was a good reminder that clients sometimes describe the effects of a deep, therapeutic massage in unexpected ways. What might initially sound like a complaint can actually be their way of expressing how much they needed the treatment. In this case, the clarification made all the difference, and I couldn't help but laugh.
